10 Post Ideas for Social Media in August

Welcome to the August article of our “What to post on social media” series! At Mediamodifier, we are all about helping our audience of marketers, designers and anyone who needs to do a design simply to do their work better. Here’s what we have for you for social media in August, starting with the month-long themes and a very special week-long theme!

1. Happiness Happens Month

What does being happy mean to you? For the Society of Happy People (SOHP), part of being happy is about “sharing your happiness with other happy people” so it “makes two people smile more”! The SOHP has decided that August should be Happiness Happens Month and we couldn’t agree more with their theme for this year: “Count Your Happy”.

2. National Water Quality Month

In the words of National Geographic: “clean water is essential for life”. Clean water is “vital to our individual health, our collective agricultural needs, and the needs of our environment”. That’s why the Month of August is “dedicated to making the most of the relatively small amount of fresh water we have”.

Encourage others to re-think their water consumption and consider the various water sources we have for National Water Quality Month! Simply edit the text and picture on our poster template using our design maker and share it.

3. World Breastfeeding Week on 1–7 August

World Breastfeeding Week is a global campaign aimed “to inform, anchor, engage and galvanise action on breastfeeding and related issues”. As breast milk is known for many benefits, why not show your support for it especially if your business supports women?

4. International Beer Day – 6 August

Who can say no to a day that celebrates the wonderful beverage of beer? We can’t! Especially if one of this day’s aims is to “bring the world together by celebrating the beers of all nations and cultures on this one remarkable day”.

5. International Cat Day – 8 August

6. International Youth Day – 12 August

Led by the United Nations, International Youth Day “gives an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement”. The theme for this year is “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health, with the aim of highlighting that the success of such a global effort will not be achieved without the meaningful participation of young people”.

7.  International Left-Handers Day – 13 August

As many things in our world are designed for right-handers, 13 August has been designated as the day to “raise awareness of the everyday issues” that left-handers face. If you’re a left-hander yourself or want to support left-handers on this day, you can do so by posting on social media with the #lefthandersday hashtag!

8. World Humanitarian Day – 19 August

On 19 August, it’s time for us all to come together to commemorate “humanitarian workers killed and injured in the course of their work” and to honor “all aid and health workers who continue, despite the odds, to provide life-saving support and protection to people most in need”.

9. International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition – 22 August

Another solemn yet important day is the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition led by the United Nations. This day “is intended to inscribe the tragedy of the slave trade in the memory of all peoples”. One in 200 people is still a slave today as a result of modern slavery. Perhaps we could all use this day to reflect on how we can work together to end human exploitation.

10. Women’s Equality Day – 26 August

Women’s Equality Day is an annual event in the United States that is observed on 26 August. Celebrated since 1971, this day marks “American women’s advancements toward equality with men”. Although Women’s Equality Day is possibly more celebrated in the US, we feel that it’s a day we all can commemorate to celebrate women and join in the fight for female equality around the world.
